On Tuesday afternoon, the driver of a pickup truck caused a fatal accident in Louisville after choosing to leave the scene of a narcotics investigation. The driver was part of a narcotics investigation near 40th and Broadway. Shortly after the investigation began, the driver fled the scene, and had five different patrol vehicles chasing him.

The pickup truck was traveling east when it ran a stop sign at 39th Street and crashed into a red Pontiac in the Chickasaw neighborhood. The female driver of the Pontiac was heading north when she was struck by the speeding pickup truck. The impact of the collision caused the woman’s vehicle to be pushed three houses down before coming to rest in a residential driveway.

Paramedics arrived on the scene and immediately transported the driver of the Pontiac to University Hospital. The woman did not survive her injuries, and was pronounced dead at the hospital shortly after arriving. The pickup truck driver was said to have sustained only minor injuries in the collision. Right after the pickup truck struck the Pontiac, it struck a tree. The patrol vehicles surrounded the crashed truck, with one officer pulling up directly besides the driver’s side of the vehicle so that the driver could not flee the scene.

Investigators are still reviewing the accident, and at this time cannot confirm any of the specific details associated with the case. Charges are expected to be filed against the driver of the pickup truck.

A Louisville veteran is suing the Veterans Administration for medical malpractice after he says a nurse kept ice packs on his groin for 19 hours after surgery, causing frostbite and gangrene. As a result, his penis had to be partially amputated.

According to ABC 15, the man is seeking $10 million in damages. Doctors had to remove a five-inch section of his penis, which will require him to undergo reconstructive surgery to allow him to urinate.

NJ family sues Louisville Slugger maker for son’s injuries

Posted on August 6th, 2012 No Comments

A Wayne, New Jersey, family has settled their lawsuit against Kentucky-based Hillerich and Bradsby, which makes Louisville Sluggers, as well as Sports Authority Inc., Little League Inc., and New Jersey Little League after their son suffered brain injuries during a Little League game.

The accident occurred in 2006 when the then-12-year-old boy threw a pitch and was hit in the chest by the ball by a batter using an aluminum Louisville Slugger. The ball hit his heart between beats, causing his heart to stop for several minutes, which lead to oxygen deprivation in the boy’s brain.

According to The Record, the boy’s family claims aluminum bats propel balls faster than wooden ones and should not be used in Little League games. They believe the bat was not properly tested for safety.

Have a fun and safe Fourth of July

Posted on July 2nd, 2012 No Comments

Fireworks are the quintessence to celebrate America’s independence, but they can also be dangerous when handled by non-professionals. When celebrating this week, please exercise caution around fireworks and sparklers.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, children are the most at risk of being injured by fireworks. About 40 percent of individuals who suffer firework-related injuries are children younger than 15 years-old.

The size of the firework is not a gauge of its explosive power or danger. Sparklers, for example, burn at 1200 degrees Fahrenheit and are responsible for more than a quarter of all firework-related injuries.

If you or someone you love has been injured by fireworks due to another person’s negligence, contact the personal injury lawyers of the Sampson Law Firm today at 502-584-5050.
