Wrong diagnosis leads to stomach being removed

Posted on November 21st, 2011 No Comments

A 59 year-old Australian man is suing the Central Coast Local Health District after a pathologist incorrectly found cancerous growths in a biopsy of the man’s stomach. He was then told he had an aggressive form of stomach cancer.

The man had most of his stomach removed and underwent seven chemotherapy sessions before the mistake was discovered. As a result of the rigorous procedures, he lost nearly 45 pounds and is unable to eat while sitting down. He suffers from depression and anxiety, and says he often wakes up in night sweats.

According to his attorney, he is suing for monetary compensation for injury and damage as a result of the misdiagnosis.
